WINSLOW, ME March 4, 2004 -- Children's healthcare in Central and Eastern Maine gets a substantial gift every year from the Children's Miracle Network (CMN). And this year, CMN will get a boost as a result of a statewide martial arts event being held locally.
When Huard's Ju-Jitsu Karate School of Winslow hosts the 24th Annual Battle of Maine Martial Arts Championships on Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Sukee Arena, $1 of every ticket sold will be donated to the Children's Miracle Network of Eastern Maine Healthcare.
"We're committed to supporting healthy lifestyles for young people and we support the good work that the Children's Miracle Network does, "says Mark Huard, the event organizer. The funds that are raised stay in this area and in towns toward the north.
Governor John Baldacci has declared March 20, 2004 as Maine Martial Arts Day, in observance of healthy lifestyle activities for Maine kids. Celebrating this honor, Huard's Martial Arts School will once again be hosting the 24th Annual "Battle of Maine" Martial Arts Championships at Sukee Arena in Winslow.
On Saturday, March 20, 2004 the Battle of Maine Championships will begin at 8:45 a.m. with some of the most spectacular martial arts demonstrations even seen in the state of Maine. These amazing events will take place in the center ring, so that all of the competitors and spectators will be able to enjoy. Immediately following these demonstrations, all ten rings will open up with the junior forms and fighting divisions. This will include local, regional and national competitors from all over the East Coast as well as Canada. This Martial Arts Extravaganza will feature over 135 divisions with many different styles of the martial arts.
This year together with the 24th Annual Battle of Maine Martial Arts Championships, we are asking local, regional and national businesses to join us to raise funds for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in Maine.
In addition to area business contributions, assistant event promoter Mark Huard has worked really hard to fly in some special celebrity television and movie guests all the way from Hollywood, California. (Please read the attached information sheets about these celebrity guests.
Please feel free to take the opportunity to come down to the event and meet these celebrities. Autographed photos will be available for only $3 each. Limousine rides with the television celebrities and world martial arts champion guests will be available throughout the day for only $5.00 per person. All money raised will go to help support the Children's Miracle Network. The Limousine rides are courtesy of Chariot Limo out of Waterville, Maine. Please extend our appreciation to their kind support for the community!
The Children's Miracle Network is a non-profit children's healthcare fundraising organization representing over 170 hospitals in North America. CMN of Eastern, Maine healthcare raises funds for the purchase of highly sophisticated medical equipment and therapy supplies so that every child will be assured access close to home to the highest quality medical service available in their area. 100% of the money raised with this Battle of Maine Fundraiser will stay in Maine for the help of our children. Sick and injured children throughout this area depend on the services of CMN.
Please help us make this event a huge success for both karate participants and the Children's Miracle Network. Stop by the Children's Miracle Network booth at the Battle of Maine, purchase a limo ticket or make a special donation in tribute to a child you love.
Assistant tournament director Mark Huard says "we put on a tournament for people to have a chance to excel in their art, just as a dance teacher holds a recital. About seventy five percent of the competitors at the Battle of Maine will be children. It's really great to see these children excel. We try to teach our children it's not winning or losing. We teach them to go out and have a good time and meet new friends.
